Pam Harrison gives her opinion on foaling onto easibed plus…
Bedding for foaling boxes needs to be clean and hygienic and also practical and we found easibed plus to be all of those things.
The hi-tech additive in easibed plus gave us confidence that the stable environment was as clean and healthy as it could be and the mare was quite confident to lie down as it provided a firm, yet comfortable bed for her.
When the foal was born, it was ideal that all the fluids quickly drained away, leaving the top of the bed dry. The bedding did not stick to the wet foal and he found it easy to get up because the bed didn’t move under his feet. As he was walking on the top of the bed, not in amongst it, he could happily move around very easily, which seemed to give him confidence.
The mare foaled just before 1am, but because of thunderstorms, she didn’t go out with the foal until around 5pm that day and it was very convenient the bed stayed dry and clean on top, because we didn’t have to worry about removing all the wet until we could safely let them out into the field.
We’ve kept the mare and foal on easibed plus and it really is ideal. It’s very hygienic, obviously comfortable and stays dry on top, so the foal is always clean. And, thanks to the effective fly deterrent, neither he nor his mother are at all bothered by flies in the stable. This is a very practical and easily managed product for foaling.
