Davison Family on Flying From in Europe - and the Union Jack Raised Again
< back
The week after gather Richard raided the flag in France, it was the turn of son Joe to do the honours in Belgium. After a nail biting finish, 19-year-old Joe Davison helped Great Britain's Under 21 Show Jumping Team take gold at the season's first team competition.
Speaking directly after the medal ceremony at Belgium’s Moorsele CSIYO on May 15th, youngest of the team Joe Davison from Uttoxeter, Staffordshire said, "It was a real battle for gold. A nations cup format involves jumping two gruelling rounds by all four team members. But at the end it was a tie between The Netherlands and Great Britain, so it had to go to a jump-off which is unusual, not to say nerve-wracking for those watching". Joe was joined by fellow team mates Emily Davies, Phillipa Dobby and Sam Hutton.
Contributing a valuable clear round to the scores Joe was selected to represent GB following recent good form.
Riding his parents striking grey gelding Egano Star, a former team horse with brother Tom, the combination finished 3rd in the grand prix at the recent European Viewing Trials and finished 4th in a string grand prix behind Olympic Legend John Whitaker.
