Successful show jumpers Ellen Whitaker and Billy Twomey, both of whom enjoy support from easibed, have shown consistent form at recent international fixtures, securing a win each and a number of top placings at the Horse of the Year Show. Billy was in fine form, taking a total of 11 placings inside the top 10 at HOYS. He headed the line in the Thomas Bates & Son Classic with the chestnut mare Annastasia III, the same combination narrowly beaten into second place in the Tack365.com Leading Showjumper of the Year.
Billy also took second place in the Pennwood Forge Mill Trophy - named after Paddy McMahon’s great partner - after notching up a total of 81 points. Competing in the easibed stakes with Whinny Jackson, Billy jumped into a creditable ninth place.
Ellen scored her Horse of the Year Show victory in the Speed Horse of the Year with Henri de Here, collecting seven other placings in the top ten , including a 3rd place in The HOYS.co.uk Cup with Kanselier.
Billy travelled the same string – Annastasia III, Whinny Jackson and Wertherroschen - to Northern Ireland the following week to jump in the 4-day Northern Ireland International and his purple streak continued, with three wins and six second placings.
Annastasia claimed the Bank of Ireland Trophy and Whinny Jackson, described by Billy as “always dependable in a class like this” collected the Templeton Robinson Top score with an emphatic performance that left him well clear of his nearest rival.
Wertherroschen was consistent too, narrowly missing out in both the WKD Stakes and in the crowd-pleasing Lagan Group Puissance.
Ellen meanwhile was in action in Helsinki, finishing third in a 17-strong jump off for the Finnish World Cup Qualifier with her top string Locarno 62.
Demonstrating their enviable ability to remain accurate off a turn to a big oxer against the clock, Ellen and the 10-year-old bay Holsteiner stallion must be hopeful of a place in the World Cup final in Las Vegas. |
